7 Important Tips for Beginner Cyclists

4:54 am by Hernan Edwards

Cycling is a sport that virtually anyone can do and that can help anyone feel great and get into shape. There are some tips however that can help to make your trip into cycling simpler and a bit more fun. If you are a beginner, here are 7 tips you need to keep in mind.

1. Get the Right Cycle

The first tip is to make sure you get the right cycle. You should have a cycle that is going to be big enough for you but not too big so that you do not overextend and end up hurting yourself before you ever really get out of the gate.

If you are unsure what size bike you need, you should take the time to go into a cycle shop and have them measure you to see what is going to work best. Cycles are measured by the length of your leg from your inseam to foot and this helps you to make sure you are going to be able to fully extend when riding.

2. Take it Easy

The next tip is to not overdo it. Though it might be tempting to go all out and do a full tour de France style ride, it is always best to go it slow until you get a feel for your bike, your riding style and your particular trails.

You should start out with short rides that are going to help you get used to your bike and to the experience of cycling so that you can avoid injury and so that you can really get into riding without injury.

3. Take Advice From Pros

If you know someone that cycles regularly listen to what they say. They are going to be able to give you valuable advice that can help you to figure out what you need to do to get the most out of your cycling experience.

They might tell you what type of bike to get, what trails to ride, and what other gear you may need to get the most out of your cycle. These tips are invaluable and are great for beginners as these individuals have already been through the wringer and know what to expect.

You do not expect to be a world-class cyclist right out of the gate. Take your time to get used to your bike and to cycling in general before you start to put too much pressure on yourself. Take the time to try out a few different styles, a few different cycling paths until you find what works for you.

Take the time to get to know your style and to know what you are capable of so that you can really feel great and do the most with your cycling.

5. Have Fun

It may be tempting to treat cycling as an exercise only and avoid having fun while on the trails. However, it is always going to be more enjoyable if you are having fun with what you are doing.

Try switching up the trails that you go on, the speed that you ride, and the music that you listen to while on the trail so that you can keep things fresh and interesting.

6. Let Yourself Make Mistakes

If you are having trouble getting the hand of cycling, do not let it get you down. If you make a mistake and get hurt or are not having the results that you want, take the time to look at what went wrong and try to figure out how you can remedy it without getting overly frustrated. You are just starting out and making mistakes is normal.

7. Do Your Research

If you are just starting out with cycling you should take the time to do the proper research so that you can be sure you are not going to get injured in the process.

Take the time to read about proper techniques, proper gear, and make sure that you are taking your time when it comes to learning so that you do not end up overdoing it and getting hurt while riding. Research is the best way to prevent injury and to love cycling.
